Black is one of our favorite neutrals. It’s classic but with a bit of edge. Paired with crisp white, it’s timeless. Add warm natural woods and it’s one of our favorite trending looks. We’ve used black tile throughout our recent projects and at different price points. Read on for our reveal of the exact tile we are using!
Affordable Black Hex in our Summit Creek Master Bathroom
Summit Creek Project / Rebekah Westover Photography / Hex Tile
This large scale black tile makes a statement in this bathroom. The hexagonal shape is classic, but the color, scale, and matte finish pull it a touch modern. We used Merola Tile Hexatile Matte Nero 7″ x 8″. We paired the look with white grout, but go with black grout for a modern monochromatic vibe. Even though this project was a high-end custom build, the tile is relatively affordable and a great option if you want style on a budget.
Black Moroccan Zellige in our Family Ties Custom Build

Moroccan Zellige Tiles are handmade glazed terra cotta. We love them for adding incredible sheen and texture to a neutral space. In this multi-functional utility room we used Zia Tile Carbon Black Zellige. We used the same flooring in the pool bathroom.

Slate Tile in our Family Ties Custom Build

Slate tile is both beautiful and practical. It grounds a space with it’s rich dark color and matte texture but is also highly durable and cost effective. It’s a good choice for bathrooms, laundry, or mudrooms because it is naturally slip resistant. We used Cle Tile 6″x24″ Slate Large Plank. We used dark grout to keep the color consistent and placed it in a herringbone pattern for interest.

Square Tile in Family Ties Custom Build Bathroom
Family Ties Custom Build / Rebekah Westover Photography / Square Tile
Subway tile has been the dominant tile shape for so long that a square is slightly unexpected. We used it as our flooring pick in this bathroom. Near the vanity, we staggered the tile but in the shower opted for a stacked look. The difference in pattern adds interest while still maintaining consistency in the shape. We used this Zellige tile in a 4″x4″ square.

Affordable Black Subway Tile in our Spanish Modern Project

This bold matte black subway tile is very affordable. It’s Dalitle Rittenhouse Square 2″x6″ in Matte Black. We paired it with white grout and took it floor to ceiling to add drama. It looks great with brass accents and marble in modern spaces.
