When designing a large kitchen, clients are often questioning if the space needs one island or two. While a double-island kitchen can create a stunning focal point, it isn’t simply about making a statement. The best double-island layouts are driven by function. In our Mapleton Project, two islands allowed us to create distinct zones for prep, gathering, and circulation while maintaining the clean, open feel that defines the home.
One of our favorite design combinations right now is the mix of warm light oak cabinetry with a rich, dark island. It’s a look that feels both timeless and fresh, creating beautiful contrast while maintaining the warmth that makes a home feel inviting. In our Sunset Shores Project, we used rift-sawn oak cabinetry paired with a black glazed island and matching open shelving to create a kitchen that feels elevated, layered, and full of character.
