Start Fresh: 5 Ways to Create Light and Airy Spaces

Start your year off with a fresh foundation. All of us have at least a few spots in the home that feel dark and cave-like. Combat the drabby shadows and energize even your smallest, windowless rooms with a few styling tips. Clean, declutter, organize, and add in these five items to help create a light and airy vibe in your home.

Light-Reflecting Mirrors

Face a mirror opposite any natural light to maximize it. The mirror will reflect it throughout the room. We always use a mirror in our entries and bedrooms, but also add floor mirrors in any low light living spaces.

Strategic Lighting

Jack Griffo Project

Ambient lighting is a must in creating a bright welcoming space. Use overhead fixtures, wall sconces, and lamps to create an even welcoming glow throughout a space. Also, another good tip is to use a fixture that throws light toward the ceiling. In this entry, the light from the sconces illuminates the ceiling creating a sense of brightness and height.

Metallic Styling

Bounce light around the room with reflective metals and mirrored furniture. A few shiny surfaces can go along way in mentally brightening up a space.

Light Wood Floors

A foundation of light wood floors creates levity. Although our Via Torina Project gets plenty of natural light, it was initially styled with dark floors. Switching them out for white oak created a new bright and airy look. See the before here. If you are saving up for new floors in 2022, be sure to check out our new more affordable wood-look flooring line with Hewn Floors.

Colorful Landscape Art

In a windowless room, create a view with art. In this little laundry nook, a beautiful photograph adds color and organic beauty that enlivens the space.

It’s work, but giving your home a New Year’s makeover creates an oasis you love to be in and sets you up for tackling all the goals on your list.

Happy New Year!
