Before and After: Olympic Way Project

Today I have a total transformation to share with you. I had the pleasure of updating the kitchen and family room spaces of a home for a client who wanted light and bright spaces for her children and grandchildren to visit. The whole feeling of these rooms changed from dark and dated to fresh and inviting. Check out the before and after pictures of the Olympic way project below.

The first and most impactful step of this remodel was paint. By painting all the walls, trim and bookshelves white it dramatically brightened the spaces. The color is Swiss Coffee by Benjamin Moore. It is one of my go to white paints. To see more white paint options you can browse my white paint guide here.

Next, the dark inset carpet was replaced with light gray carpet. Between the paint and the carpet the whole feeling of the room was lifted, creating a fresh foundation for new furnishings.

My client wanted to entertain and have it be a family friendly space so I choose a large sectional in a textured gray linen fabric and upholstered chairs for plenty of comfortable seating.  Pink and coral accents with vintage textiles and warmth from natural wood planters give the space color and interest.

One of my favorite updates are the bookshelves. Styled with new accents and some old treasures, they became a bright and beautiful focal point for the room.

The kitchen got a fresh makeover with a new 3×6 Calcutta tile backsplash that extends to the ceiling for a more modern, custom look. The counters are polished Calacatta Gold marble and look beautiful with the refaced white shaker style cabinetry. Matte black hardware and faucets give the space a refined, modern edge.

A large rectangular lantern in the kitchen nook pairs well with the black accents from the kitchen. By removing existing cabinetry the space became bright and open. A clean, modern wall of black framed family pictures was all the space needed to feel complete with a little personality.  This is a great example of one of my designing mantras – less is more! I love this fresh, crisp space.
