Happy New Year! We love starting the year with a look forward to the looks, colors, and changes we expect to see and use more of in the upcoming year. Innovation and change is a fun part of design. Although your home should be an expression of you and not driven exclusively by trends, seeing new ideas can be a fun way to evolve your own personal style. We’re breaking down 2023’s trends room by room, starting today with the trends we’re seeing in the living spaces of your home, both the formal and casual spaces that you entertain in, work in, and lounge in. Take a look!
Dark Woods
A few years ago everything was about being light, white, modern, and airy. Traditional design has slowly been filtering back in to the look designers and clients are loving. This year, this turn back toward the traditional is including dark wood furniture and accents. Medium tones were popular last year, but this year think dark and rich providing high contrast with your existing light toned floors, beams, and walls.
Brown Tones and Warm Neutrals
From furniture to accents, shades of brown are dominating all the most trending spaces. Dark rich chocolatey browns add lots of warmth. For a softer look, or a look that pairs well with existing black accents in your home, try camel or taupe.
Multifunctional Furniture and Spaces
Interest rates rose dramatically in 2022 and many might now find themselves considering much smaller, more affordable homes. In 2023, small homes become much more usable with multifunctional spaces that serve dual purposes. This living space in our Family Ties Custom Build doubles as a home office space and guest room with a hidden pull out Murphy bed.
Effortless Design
Of course we love the look of read wood, true stones, authentic rugs, etc. But as we move in to 2023, the more affordable, more family-friendly get-the-look-alternatives will continue to gain popularity because they are getting so good. For example, wood alternative flooring used to look cheap and nothing you wood consider in a high-end home. Today? Luxury Vinyl Plank and our own line of Stoneform Floors with HEWN look so realistic. For families with children, dogs, pools, or extreme weather, they make a lot of sense, achieving the look of European oak without the effort of maintaining real wood. Check back all month as we welcome the new year with the trends and new looks we are loving throughout the home. Plus, we have new projects wrapping up that we can’t wait to reveal. Here’s to 2023!
