Quick Guide: 5 Beautiful Backsplash Tiles for White Kitchens

When designing a new space, there are so many decisions that it can quickly become overwhelming. We are here to help. This spring we are starting a new series called Quick Guide. We are tackling your most frequently emailed design dilemmas and solving them using tips, tricks, and favorite industry looks so that you can get a designer look in your own home even if your budget doesn’t allow for one. As you make design decisions in each space in your home, we will narrow down the options to a few no-fail looks for you to pick from and share our sources for recreating the look.

Today we kicking off the series in the kitchen. We are sharing five beautiful tile options that are as timeless as subway tile, but more unique. Any one of these would make a beautiful statement in your design and add just the right amount of texture or shine to keep things interesting.

Luminescent White

Prairie Home Styling

This tile is so pretty. Especially in person. It is the Weather White Zellige in a 4″ x 4″ square from Cle Tile. The white glazed terracotta tiles have a pearl-like shine that adds so much dimension to a white space and creates a high-end artisan vibe. At $19.50 a square foot, it is best for larger budgets or small spaces.

Dimensional Arabesque

Becki Owens and Nicole Davis

In this Modern Mediterranean kitchen we went bright white on the cabinetry, but softened the look with the prettiest off white tiles full of dimension and texture. The dimensional arabesque tiles are called Noblesse 2 by Tabarka. The custom terra cotta tiles elevate a new space by giving a touch of Old World authenticity. Going a touch creamier with your tiles is a good way to embrace this years trending swing toward warm spaces. Tabarka tile cannot be ordered directly from their site online, but see here for a full list of where to buy in your area. Click here to see another view of this kitchen.

Affordable Square

Becki Owens Updated White Kitchen

Good design does not have to cost a fortune! You can get a fresh new look no matter your budget. In this kitchen project we created a modern look using Dalitle’s 6′ x 6′ Semi-Gloss Arctic White Ceramic Tiles with dark grout. At just over $2 a square foot, this look makes a statement without breaking the bank. See more of this kitchen before and after here.

Marble Mosaic

AGK Design Studio

This marble mosaic backsplash feels white but still has pretty gray veining that adds a little contrast. It’s a pretty, timeless stone with a unique shape. The tile is from Mosaic Tile Outlet and is called Random Sized Marble Mosaic in Gray/White. We found it here for $15.30/sq ft.

Linear Hex

Becki Owens Double Eagle Project

In this kitchen, we wanted the clean look of subway tile but with more interest. We created a graphic pattern using Emser Tile’s Linear Hex in Polished White. With light grout, the pattern is subtle and clean-lined but the shine and shape add texture. We like to incorporate layers of texture like this in a neutral kitchen. The subtle details are what make the kitchen feel higher end. This tile is about $13/sq ft.

Pick your favorite of these looks for a white backsplash that will look perfect in your space. Check back soon for more design problems solved in our Quick Guide series reference!
