Our Favorite Flooring for High Traffic Areas

The floor of your dreams should be beautiful and practical. You want your house to look like the inspirations you find on Instagram, but your design choices have to fit the lifestyle of you and your family or it’s just too stressful. If you have kids, pets, live by water, have high-traffic spaces, or just don’t want the stress of a high-maintenance floor, today we are sharing some of our favorite durable flooring options that don’t sacrifice beauty.

HEWN Stoneform Floors

Hewn’s revolutionary Stoneform floors are crafted largely from stone and built to capture the dimension, texture, and feel of traditional wood flooring. They are beautiful and durable. We loved them so much that we partnered with them to create a custom line. We ensured that the dimensions were the same as the wide plank look we use in our designs and carefully selected beautiful custom colors with clients in mind. In our recent Golden Hour Project, we used HEWN floors in the Weathered colorway to recreate the warm beauty of European Oak that we love.

Luxury Plank Vinyl

Luxury Plank Vinyl creates the natural look of wood or stone using the durability of vinyl. In the past, vinyl floors looked cheap, but these new floors get the water-proof durability that you need while still maintaining a high-end look. For our client who planned to rent out this vacation home on VRBO, the durable flooring is perfect. We used Paradigm Flooring Conquest Collection in the Chateau Colorway.

Natural Stone

Natural stone indoors helps to create a layered organic vibe that blends indoors and out and in a pretty way. In our Family Ties Custom Build we used slate tile in the mudroom. Slate is both beautiful and practical. It grounds a space with rich dark color and matte texture but is also highly durable and cost effective. It’s a good choice for bathrooms, laundry, or mudrooms because it is naturally slip resistant. We used Cle Tile 6″x24″ Slate Large Plank set in a herringbone pattern.

Tile

It’s a common misconception that tile is cold and unwelcoming. The right tile can be full of warmth and beauty. Throughout our Family Ties Custom Build, we used a blend of natural wood floors and handmade terra-cotta tiles. Even though they are practical, the tiles are so cool they look like a design decision made for their beauty not practicality. Here in the kitchen butlers’ pantry, we used a Belgian Reproduction terra-cotta in black from Cle Tile.

Hope this helps as you design the home you want to live in. The one that is beautiful but also fits the needs of your whole crew. Thanks for stopping by today! Stop by agains soon for more design tips and space reveals.
