Recently, I finished installing a project I’ve been working on for a client in Arizona. My client had lived in South California and wanted a fresh beachy look for her master bedroom, but wanted it to reflect the style of her desert, Spanish Colonial home. Today, I’m excited to share the complete details and resources for this project. I invite you to take a look into this modern Spanish colonial bedroom.
Initially, the space was dark and Tuscan feeling. It is not a large room, and the color on the walls paired with the dark wood doors and trim made the room feel even smaller. My vision for this project was to create a bright and airy space with global inspired elements and a bit of a bohemian vibe.
I started by painting the walls and trim Benjamin Moore Simply White to brighten the space, making it feel open and airy. Then, I focused on the lighting. Originally, there was a large dark brown ceiling fan in the room that didn’t give much light to the space. I decided on a light wood, beaded chandelier, to soften the look and add a beachy element.
With a simple white palette, I chose Surya’s Zahra rug in black and blue to ground the room with a bohemian vibe and set the tone for the design.
The focal point of the room is a large, turned wood, four-poster bed. I choose the gray wash for a more beachy look and the detail of the posts to pair with the Spanish colonial style of the home.
To keep the look fresh, I choose white nightstands with clean modern lines. Then I hung Moroccan style mirrors above them to open up the space and add a bit of shine. Finally, I styled the nightstands with blue, watercolor porcelain lamps, simple greenery and some books.
One of my favorite elements of the room are the vintage textiles and the crisp white trimmed bedding. I love the bit of edge from the black mud cloth euros and the pop of pink from the large lumbar. The mix of fabrics adds to the eclectic bohemian vibe and gives interest and color to the space.
I had a lot of fun with this project. It was fun to work in the setting of this Spanish colonial home and to see the total transformation. Thank you for visiting it with me today. For a complete list of resources and to get the look, see below. Have a great day!
