A library is more than just a place to store books—it’s a sanctuary, a design statement, and a retreat for creativity and reflection. In our Three Falls Project, the library was carefully designed to capture these qualities while blending seamlessly with the home’s elevated yet livable aesthetic. Every element was thoughtfully layered to create a space that is both timeless and inspiring.
The space is anchored by soaring ceilings with warm wood beams, drawing the eye upward and giving the library a sense of volume and airiness. The spiral staircase becomes a sculptural centerpiece, creating movement while also offering access to upper shelving and loft storage. It transforms practicality into a focal point, lending the room a touch of European charm.
In the center of the room, plush upholstered seating in tonal neutrals makes the library inviting and livable. A tufted sofa in a rich charcoal and rounded cream chairs balance formality with comfort, while a structured stone coffee table grounds the space. Layered textiles, from the plaid rug underfoot to cozy pillows, soften the modern lines and create warmth.
Floor-to-ceiling custom built-ins flank the staircase, painted in a deep, moody tone that adds contrast against the natural light flooding in through the windows. Styled with a mix of books, ceramics, artwork, and decorative objects, the shelving is as much about curation as it is about function. Closed cabinetry at the base provides storage for less decorative items, keeping the room clean and uncluttered.
The double-sided fireplace connects the library to the adjacent living room, creating a sense of flow between spaces. The fire becomes a shared focal point, adding an element of coziness and connection. Stacked wood and natural stone details tie the space back to the mountain setting of the Three Falls Project, blurring the lines between indoors and out.
Overhead, an oversized chandelier with a clean, circular form defines the gathering area and complements the linear architecture of the ceiling beams. The soft glow of layered lighting ensures the space transitions beautifully from day to night, making it just as functional for curling up with a book in the evening as it is for morning reading light.
This library is a study in balance—where architectural statement pieces meet approachable styling, and functionality merges with beauty. From the spiral staircase to the curated shelves, every detail was designed to create a space that encourages pause, reflection, and inspiration.
In the Three Falls Project, the library reminds us that when thoughtfully designed, a home’s quiet corners can become its most impactful spaces.
