How to Style Halloween: Spooky but Elevated

Shop Oversized Wicker Haunted House

Halloween decorating should be fun, but that doesn’t mean you have to completely change the look and feel of your home for the season. We love Halloween décor that feels festive and playful while still working with the colors, textures, and pieces you already have.

That was really the inspiration behind our Halloween Collection at Becki Owens Living. We took some of the nostalgic pieces we all associate with Halloween; skeletons, pumpkins, witch hats, bats, ghosts, and haunted houses and gave them a more elevated, collected feel.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to style Halloween at home.

1. Start With One Statement Piece

You don’t need Halloween décor everywhere. Instead, choose one larger piece to anchor your display and build around it.

Our Vintage Brass Skeleton is one of our favorites for this. At just over five feet tall, he makes an instant statement sitting on an entry bench, standing on the porch, or tucked beside a console. The antique brass finish gives him a vintage, collected look that feels so much more special than a traditional Halloween skeleton.

The Giant Wicker Haunted House is another incredible statement piece. We love it near an entry or on a covered porch, especially in the evening when the built-in lights give it the prettiest glow.

2. Layer in Natural Texture

One of the easiest ways to keep seasonal decorating feeling elevated is to use natural materials.

Wicker is a big part of our Halloween Collection for exactly that reason. Our Wicker Witch Hats and Wicker Bats add that fun Halloween shape while the woven texture keeps the overall look warm and organic.

Shop Wicker Bats

Try grouping the witch hats near a fireplace or front door, or hang the bats in a loose arrangement above a mantel, console, or staircase. They add just enough Halloween without overwhelming the room.

Shop Becki’s Broomstick

And don’t forget Becki’s Broomstick. The natural wood, velvet bow, and tiny lights make it such an easy piece to lean beside a front door or fireplace.

3. Keep Your Color Palette Simple

When you’re trying to create a more sophisticated Halloween look, limit the number of colors you introduce.

We love a palette of black, cream, warm brown, natural wicker, and aged brass. It feels perfect for Halloween but also blends beautifully with the warmer colors and textures we naturally bring into our homes for fall.

Shop Toile Pumpkin and Jack-O-Lantern

Our matte black jack-o’-lanterns are perfect for this. Mix them with creamy pumpkins, wicker pieces, or your own vintage pottery and vessels rather than styling every Halloween piece together.

4. Create Little Moments Throughout Your Home

Not every Halloween display needs to be big.

Shop Pumpkin Cookie Jar

Some of our favorite seasonal details are the little unexpected moments, a trio of Ceramic Ghosts tucked onto a bookshelf or a Pumpkin Cookie Jar mixed into an island centerpiece.

These smaller pieces are such an easy way to bring Halloween into the kitchen, family room, or entry without making the entire space feel themed.

5. Mix Halloween With Your Everyday Décor

This might be my biggest Halloween styling tip: don’t take everything else away.

Instead, layer seasonal pieces into your existing décor.

Place a black pumpkin next to a favorite vintage vase. Add wicker bats above artwork that’s already hanging. Style ceramic ghosts between stacks of books. Layer a Halloween garland across a mantel with your existing candlesticks and greenery.

Mixing old and new is what gives a space that collected look I love.

6. Make the Porch Feel Special

Your front porch is one place where you can have a little more fun.

Start with one oversized piece like the Giant Wicker Haunted House or Vintage Brass Skeleton, then layer around it with pumpkins, witch hats, the broomstick, lanterns, and pieces you already own.

Varying the heights and materials is what makes the arrangement feel designed rather than simply decorated. And pieces with a little glow are especially beautiful as the days get shorter.

A Halloween Home That Still Feels Like You

The best seasonal decorating doesn’t require filling every surface or completely transforming your home. A few special pieces, thoughtfully layered with things you already love, can create just as much impact.

Our Halloween Collection was designed with that idea in mind: pieces that feel nostalgic and fun, but still beautiful enough to work in a thoughtfully designed home.

Bring on spooky season.
