Designer Spotlight: Wendy Word Design

The spaces created by Wendy Word Design embody an easy elegance. Each room has a fresh foundation of bright white walls or trim and wide-planked floors enriched with simple layers of bright color, vintage textiles, and thoughtful details. I like that each space is cohesive and welcoming without ever feeling fussy or over-designed. If you are not familiar with this design firm, get ready to fall in love over the images below.

These bedrooms each show Wendy Word’s talent for making traditional spaces interesting through vintage textiles and statement lighting. These rooms use a lot of color but still maintain a soothing, relaxed vibe.

I love the marble mosaic statement wall in this bathroom and the simple brass accents that add warmth to the gray and white foundation.

From minimalist to traditional, these kitchens have different design aesthetics, but each feels clean and timeless. In the first kitchen, I like the mix of modern simplicity and warm rustic. The sleek stainless range is a killer focal point, while the woven dining chairs are cozy and welcoming. I love the floor plan of this second kitchen with the easy flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The cabinetry is a perfect shade of blue that feels both classic and fresh and is a nice moody counterpoint to all the bright white light that otherwise fills the spaces.

The mixed color cabinetry in this traditional kitchen is interesting with the gray uppers and blue lowers. I like how the muted color-pallet creates a calm in a room that for most families is often chaotic.

Wendy Word uses vibrant colors in some of her spaces that bring a happiness to the room. In this girls bedroom and formal dining room her mix of bright color, vintage textile, and traditional furniture is unexpected and fun.

I love living spaces that feel relaxed and inviting. These lounging areas use texture and pattern to create interest without clutter. A few well-chosen accessories is all that is needed to make the space feel warm and unique. And I love how the black built-ins show off the bright highlights of color.
