Design Trend 2021: The Stone Kitchen

Leanne Ford

We’ve had our eye stone kitchens for a few years and wrote them up as an emerging trend in 2018. We loved them for the rustic vibe they created in modern homes. The trend has continued to grow. This year, we are in the middle of choosing stone for a few projects. The look is best when the rich organic look of stone is paired with clean lines for contrast, warm woods, and ties in with exterior stone for a true blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. Take a look at these inspiring kitchens and be sure to check back throughout the year to see how we are incorporating the stone kitchen trend into our projects in 2021.

Stone Backsplash

The cobblestone backsplash in this kitchen is paired with patterned tile and reclaimed wood for a strong rustic vibe. But we love how contrasting modern steel shelves and sleek barstools keep the look from feeling one note.

Trickle Creek Homes

We’ve shared this kitchen on Instagram recently and our followers loved it. Here, the stone backsplash is paired with another of this years biggest trends, light wood cabinetry. The stone adds color and depth to the beautiful all wood kitchen.

Stone Floor

Slate flagstone slabs are often used outside for walkways. Bringing them in and running them through the house blurs the line between indoor and out in the prettiest way. Layer with light warm woods for an organic look that still feels airy.

Statement Walls

Even after a few years, this kitchen is still a follower favorite on our Pinterest boards. The stone walls running throughout the space make a huge statement. The oversize glass doors framed in steel keep the stone from feeling too heavy and gives the rustic kitchen a hint of modern. It’s an incredible space.

We’re sharing 2021 trends all month long so check back for more!
