Las Palmas Project Powder Bath

May 14, 2018

Although powder bath’s are tiny spaces, they can have huge impact. You might think that since the space is small, you should keep it clean and simple with bright white paint. Although I am usually always down with white paint, in a small half bath with no natural light white can feel stark and boring. Instead, go bold to create a unique space that feels warm and inviting for visiting guests. In the powder bath of my Las Palmas Project, we created a coastal bohemian vibe with incredible wallpaper, a mix of patterns, and rich brass accents. Take a look!

Get The Look: Las Palmas Master Bathroom

June 12, 2017

I recently got professional shots back of my Las Palmas master bathroom and so today I am excited to reshare the details of this modern bohemian bath retreat. The space is a fresh room filled with Moroccan influences and colorful accents. Take a peek and then see how to recreate a similar look in your own home.

We started creating this serene space with a crisp white foundation that feels clean and fresh. To add interest, we then created warmth with colorful accessories.

The vintage kilim runner (similar here, here, here, and here) spans the bathroom to add vibrant color and wooden accents add warmth throughout the space.  We chose a wooden sculptural stool and wood-framed mirror to provide a space to get ready. A wood ladder creates a perfect spot to hang fringed Turkish towels.

We chose black round mirrors to tie in the dark accents in the room. Dark accents work to ground the bright space and create modern edge. Brass sconces above the mirrors are paired with a beautiful Moroccan-style pendant from Arteriors.

A modern freestanding tub has clean lines that fits the fresh aesthetic. For more freestanding tub favorites, read this post. We styled the tub with this wooden bathtub tray. It gives a space for a candle, bath salts, and a drink to sip while unwinding.

In the adjacent walk-in closet, we created another vanity spot for final touches. We used this beautiful inlaid bone mirror (or here is another pretty option) and styled the space with brass shadow boxes for jewelry, a basket for laundry, photos and fresh flowers.

This space is clean and fresh but with a global influence that keeps it interesting. To recreate the look in your own space, pin the Get the Look below for future reference. To see more of my Las Palmas Project read about the kitchen or the living and dining rooms.

Happy Monday!

New Decor For The New Year

Las Palmas Project Family Room

April 17, 2017

Today, I have another beautiful space to share of our coastal bohemian Las Palmas project. Adjacent to the fresh white kitchen, is a casual family lounge space of soft neutrals, vintage textiles,  weathered woods, and hints of black. Enjoy! If you missed it, check out the rest of this pretty coastal home: kitchen, master bathroom, and living and dining rooms.

In this open-concept project, it was important that the design of this little lounge space blend seamlessly with the crisp clean feel of the adjacent kitchen. We continued the Royal Oak Canewood floors from the kitchen into the space and kept with Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace on the walls. This beautiful white paint is a cool hued white that reads bright and fresh in light-filled spaces.

We defined the space as separate from the kitchen with a beautiful neutral rug. It has a subtle black geometric pattern for a fresh take on Moroccan. We made sure that the rug was wool so that it would wear well in this much used family space.  Continuing our neutral foundation, we selected a comfortable linen sectional. When using light upholstery for furniture, we like selecting an indoor/outdoor fabric that repels stains, or choosing a slipcovered sofa that can be washed.

To add depth and modern polish, we accented the space with black. We chose a  black and brass midcentury floor lamp (or here for a similar look for less), a unique Z-shaped side table, simple black curtain rods, and an industrial ceiling fan that takes advantage of coastal breezes. These black accents add an interesting edge to the coastal space and keep it feeling fresh.

On top of the all these neutrals, we layered vintage textiles and weathered wood for warmth. Contrasting colors and patterns in vintage throw pillows helps the new space feel lived in and unique. Last week I shared a round up of affordable vintage pillows, or check here, here, here and here for a few more that caught my eye.

This weathered wood coffee table is a favorite of mine for adding a subtle coastal feel to a space (or check out this sea grass wrapped table for another beautiful option). We added other organic hints of the coast in the styling of the coffee table with a pretty natural wood bowl and aqua glass beads. We finished the table with books, coasters,  a black candle with a rich scent and a black ceramic planter with a pop of green. If you missed our post on styling with succulents, check it out for ideas and favorite plants to use.

We finished the space by rounding out the seating with white fur stools from Noir (get the look for less) and an abstract painting in ocean blues (affordable options here and here).

Las Palmas Project Living + Dining Room

February 15, 2017

Last week I shared the fresh white kitchen of my coastal bohemian Las Palmas Project. Today, I am excited to continue the tour with the living and dining rooms. Like the kitchen, these spaces have clean, neutral foundations layered with organic texture, rich color, and hints of black for modern polish. Take a peek inside this beautiful modern bohemian coastal home.

Living Room

In the living room, we took advantage of the light-filled room by layering whites. We started with walls painted Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace and a beautiful vintage kilim in black and white stripe, added two large white linen sofas, and custom white drapes. The living room is open to the second story which creates a pretty airiness, but the drapes help define the space and keep it from feeling cavernous.

From the white foundation, we added different colors and textures to create warmth and interest. Black and brass accents keep the space modern, while warm natural woods of the coffee and side tables create an organic coastal feel.

Vintage textiles bring pattern to the space. I love this large-scale framed textile on the wall paired with mudcloth throw pillows.

Black leather sling chairs across from folding x-base stools round out the seating and create an eclectic, casual vibe.

Dining Room

BECKI OWENS Las Palmas Dining Room + Entry

A cozy dining nook sits open to the entry. We kept the entire dining table design natural and relied on texture rather than color to add interest. A round natural oak table is paired with these awesome woven dining chairs and a the chandelier made of intricate cocoa beads. The door painted in Benjamin Moore Black Satin adds contrast to the light woods in the space.

BECKI OWENS Las Palmas Dining

In an open-concept space, lighting can define each area. This statement light makes the dining space feel separate and unique from the rest of the room. For tips on how to hang your own statement light, check out this post here.

The light woods contrast with the black front door and buffet. Earthy wood serving bowls and glass jars add a touch of coastal to the space.

Las Palmas Project Kitchen Reveal

February 6, 2017

We have given a sneak peek of the Las Palmas Project kitchen, but today we are excited to share the full reveal. In this light-filled kitchen we kept a neutral foundation and layered it with organic texture, hints of black, and pops of color to add interest and create a subtle coastal feel.  Take a look at this breezy coastal bohemian kitchen and then shop below to get the look. Enjoy!

To take advantage of the natural light in this space, we went for an all-white foundation using Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace on both the walls and cabinets. We paired this with gorgeous Portuguese gray marble slab counters and backsplash, and then warmed the space up using Royal Oak Cane Wood floors.

To add contrast, we selected the East Linear Faucet from Newport Brass in Flat Black.  But you could also get this same look for less using the Delta Trinsic Faucet in Matte Black. Both are beautiful and create a clean modern aesthetic.

Although we wanted a breezy coastal feel in this home, we did not want it to be traditionally beachy. We created the vibe we wanted by layering organic texture like a few beautiful shells and coral in the upper shelf of the glass cabinets, beautiful rustic wood cutting boards, and these coconut shell inlay barstools in natural wood.

Black accents were continued thru to the kitchen nook with a dark round trestle table. We paired it with some of my favorite dining chairs in white woven leather and light oak.

We styled the dining nook with a  soft moody watercolor in contrasting black and blush and a pretty organic wood bowl full of succulents.

I love the lighting we selected in this kitchen. It adds another layer of texture to the space. For the dining nook, we used Arteriors hand-carved wood drum pendant. Above the island we chose Milly + Eugene Lace Rattan Pendants in white. But for a natural rattan look, I also like these dome shaped pendants.

I always style my kitchens with beautiful cutting boards and marble cheese slabs. The natural elements are beautiful, while being useful. In this space, we chose this black and white striped marble serving paddle, raw wood and white marble board, and this one of rustic olive wood.
