Utah Valley’s Parade of Homes 2016 is in progress and today’s dream home is a favorite from the event. Nestled against the Rocky Mountains in Alpine, Utah, this stunning home is a marriage of antique structure and modern sophistication created by Establish Design, a new collaborative firm between Elizabeth Kimberly Design and architect Bradford Houston. I was able to discuss the design inspiration of this home with Kimberly Rasmussen of Elizabeth Kimberly Design, and I am so excited to share the details of this timeless home.
This stunning exterior with its creamy brick, cedar roof, and copper accents was inspired by the designer’s recent trip to Europe. Kimberly explains that the graceful design and natural textures of the modern English farm was a heavy influence.
The timber structure of this great room is amazing. I love how the beams, together with the brick fireplace, creates a natural and rustic foundation, while the carefully layered colors and textures of the furnishings brings a refinement to the space. Brass accents run throughout and create cohesiveness.
I would love to relax in this gorgeous master suite. The neutral color palette is soothing and the furniture is classic and lux. I love how the design highlights the mountain view, with the steel-frame canopy framing the window. The shiplap on the pitched ceiling and built-ins on the walls is an example of the thoughtful details found throughout the house.
In the master bath, oak floors provide warmth, gorgeous marble feels timeless, and the mix of metals feels modern and fresh. The freestanding tub takes advantage of the view, and the space thoughtfully includes plenty of storage.
The home includes functional spaces for a busy family. I love the study with its table for homework and couches for reading. The views from the laundry room with its farmhouse sink and island counter space provides a refreshing atmosphere to work in.
Although I love the marble countertops, the simple brass hardware, the rustic bar stools, and the black and brass lighting in the kitchen, it is the stunning ceiling mill work that really stands out. It is unique in its scale and detail and brings an old-world feel to the modern space. The enclosed dining space with its round dining table brings intimacy to family gatherings, but the floor to ceiling steel-framed windows brings a modern need for light and space.
Kimberly believes that the secret to combining the old and the new lies in taking the very best from both. I love the way this design is infused with old-world Europe without sacrificing modern aesthetics or convenience. I would love to sit and relax in anyone of these dreamy rooms. Thank you Establish Design for sharing your beautiful home with us!
