A Sweet Baby Girl Nursery for Danielle Walker of Against All Grain

I was honored when Danielle Walker of the food blog Against All Grain reached out to me with a special project. She was looking for help designing a nursery that would both welcome her new baby Kezia as well as honor the memory of her first born daughter Aila who tragically passed shortly after birth. Danielle recently shared her story of loss and her continuing journey of healing for the Today Show. Welcoming her new baby girl and creating this space for her and her girls was part of the healing process. To learn more about Danielle and her story, watch the beautiful Today Show video and visit her blog.

Danielle wanted a serene, feminine space that would serve as sanctuary for her and her daughter. The nursery is a converted closet with a small footprint, so we wanted to create an airy feel by keeping it simple and light.

The space feels bright and fresh with white walls and trim. We added a feature wall using Bountiful Wallpaper from Anthropologie. The print and bronze sheen of this paper are so pretty and makes the white crib and fun animal prints pop.

We added warmth and texture with layered rugs and a white Moroccan leather pouf. The basket weave jute rug is very affordable and the natural color is a pretty pairing with the pink.

We kept the furniture clean-lined and white, choosing the Grayson Dresser and Merced Glider from Pottery Barn Kids. Above the dresser, we selected a fun beach print that adds vibrancy to the space. The pendant light is hand-beaded strands of wooden baubles against brass and is a fun statement.  Danielle wanted to make sure that the room would grow with Kezia, and none of these details feel too babyish.

To honor Aila, Danielle styled the dresser with some sweet little shoes and a beautiful photo from her first pregnancy. This meaningful touch helps to create the happy and warm little nursery.

A big thank you to Danielle for sharing her story and letting us be a part of her journey. I hope that this space is one of many happy memories.

This is stunning! Is the chandie the small size? I looked at Anthro and it appears to correlate with the dimensions. I think it’s a must have for my dining room update. Looks much pretty in your photo vs. Anthro!
